Things you want to know about bathroom faucets
We spend enough time in our bathroom each day. One item we seldom think about are the faucets. They would perfectly each time and only need the occasional washer repaired, or sometimes not even that. However they have been around for thousands of years and design advancements mean they are going new places in the future.
The oft quoted Ancient Romans had plumbing under control. For rich families the water was pumped into the house and there were numerous public bars and fountains. The Romans had mastered the function of faucets and also turned them into a form of decorative art. Silver faucets were talked about in public bathroom and examples were found in the volcanic ruins of Pompeii. But after fall of the Roman Empire not a lot of social importance was placed on personal hygiene and there were few developments in the faucet until 1930s. In the 1930s a single lever mixer faucet was developed and released on to the market in the 1940s. Today the single lever makes up about half of all faucets sold.
One of the largest drivers of bathroom faucet design and development is the issue of energy efficiency and green living. People are wanted this translated into their bathroom. One of the biggest movers in this field is the infra-red sensor faucets that can sense when someone puts their hands out to be washed. The faucet then turns off automatically when the hands are no longer there. You have probably experienced these in public bathrooms, but they are also making strides into the home bathroom as well. These are ideal for homes where young children are prone to not turning off the faucet. These sensor type faucets are expected to develop further yet. Improvements are expected in being able to change the water temperature
New technology is already coming onto the markets of very economic low flow bathroom faucets. These are designed to far exceed the minimum standards being suggested by consumer groups and government regulations. And if you are able to reduce the amount of water you use your utility bills will also be correspondingly less.
There are a huge number of people out there who love technology. When it comes to their bathroom and the faucets in it there is no exception. One supplier is already selling an automatic faucet that works when a hand is swiped under it, but it has information dials that show the temperature of the water and how much has been consumed in the action. There is research work underway to produce a commercial bathroom faucet that will be operated by voice commands.
And the look of the bathroom faucet can never be forgotten. It has to fit in with the feel of the room but remain completely functional. There are two trends in bathroom fittings that are proving popular with consumers and designers alike. The first is coloured glass which is bright or intense and complements many of the other materials used in the bathroom. The other trend is toward the use of stone materials that give the bathroom a more at one with nature feel.
The bathroom is one of the busiest rooms in the house and produces some of the most challenging condition for fittings to exist in. Your bathroom faucet has come a lung way and looks a lot different to the one used in Roman times.
Bathroom faucets are an investment in your bathrooms style and functionality.
