Treatments for wrinkles and lip lines
For some people the idea of having lip surgery can seem like a daunting prospect. Any type of surgery is likely to send a moment of doubt into your mind, even though the standards of sterilisation and treatment are now at the highest of standards. So when you are looking for a cosmetically enhanced look but don't want to go under the knife, what are your other options? Well, that's where cosmetic options like Botox and dermal fillers come into play.
Growing number of treatments for wrinkles and lip lines
Lip lines are caused by a range of things including ageing, sun damage as well as constant lip pursing. As such, many people are now seeking to improve their overall facial appearance by having wrinkles (including lip lines) cosmetically treated by experienced practitioners.
This has resulted in a growing number of treatments for removing wrinkles from lips being developed, with methods becoming more advanced in technique and care. One popular method is to use dermal fillers which basically pump up the lips giving them a much fuller look.
While this procedure will fix the problem of wrinkling it can give the lips an artificially thick appearance. For some, this is alright, but for others it may be an unwanted side effect. If you were to look at a celebrity like Leslie Ashley, of Men Behaving Badly fame (a well-liked British sitcom of yesteryear), then you will see how you don't want your lips to come out when it comes to treatment for the lips.
So, what's the solution? Botox treatment could be the answer.
Botox is actually a trade name, but it is also a reference to a chemical called Botulinum Toxin Type A which is itself a derivative of a bacterium called Clostridium Botulinum. Botulinum Toxin Type A, or Botox for short, is used for a variety of non surgical cosmetic treatments including reducing the size of wrinkles and frown lines.
But should it be used for reducing lip lines?
As mentioned above Botox treatment is usually used on other parts of the face. It works by reducing the constant muscle activity which produces such features as Crows feet and frown lines. The toxin is injected directly into the muscles which in turn causes temporary paralysis of the muscles. The same effect would happen when used on the lips.
Although Botox is a toxin this is not a problem. Botox is safe provided that only very small amounts are used at any one time, though ill use can cause permanent damage. It is therefore imperative that any treatment is carried out by a qualified cosmetic practitioner. Many cosmetic dentists nowadays are qualified as well as cosmetic surgeons. General practitioners (GPs) may not be.
Some practitioners also combine Botox treatment with a short-acting dermal filler. Once you have had treatment you should start to see the difference in your appearance within a short space of time. It is advisable though to have regular ongoing medical care.
The effects of Botox treatment are not permanent. Lip lines will return.
