The fashion answer to your baby's fallen out teeth and other dental jewllery
But before you think about the option of dental jewellery, whether for you or your child, you need to be thinking about the fundamentals of teeth care, something many people seem to have forgotten...
Over the last 10 years, dental emergencies being treated in the Accident and Emergency wards of hospitals has risen by 40%, from 17,400 in 2000 to 24,292 last year. This is due, in some respects, to the demand that is being placed on the system, which leaves many patients out in the cold.
Where the problems began
These problems first began as far back as the 1990s, when cuts to NHS procedure prices saw many dentists spread procedures that could take as little as one visit over multiple appointments. Also, a large number of dentists simply went into private practice during this time and were swiftly followed by NHS patients.
Earlier this month, The Health Secretary of the new Coalition Government, Andrew Lansley, attacked the former Labour government's policies regarding NHS dentistry, stating that NHS dentists remained just as inaccessible as ever before and the new figures on dental emergencies reflected this. Mr. Lansley was referring to the 2006 changes to pricing within the NHS, the reforms separated all operations the NHS conducted into three bands; a standard exam now costs almost £16, an appointment concerning a root canal costs £43.60 and more serious work can cost almost £200. These reforms were meant to make dentistry more accessible but for most people acted only to isolate dental work even more; with the new price changes a simple check up now costs around £10 more than it did before the reforms and since these changes it has been found that a staggering 7 million people haven't been to see their dentists since after the reforms.
What reforms?
The proposed new reforms by the Coalition government will base dentists' pay more on the patients than the actual dental procedure and puts an emphasis on children's oral health. Nothing has been said as of yet about bringing down the price of NHS dentists, only the nature of how they operate however or whether it will even make the NHS more available on dentistry or even open more NHS practices.
This has given rise to another reason why people are switching to private practices; security. The political bickering back and forth of what to do over the NHS and dentistry in particular has been going on since John Major's time in office, when the initial cuts were implemented, and seems set to persist with talks on spending on the NHS after 2011 continuing. With politics becoming so wrapped up in the NHS, perhaps turning to successful private dentists such as Harley Street Dental Studio is giving patients more peace of mind that there aren't going to be drastic cuts and reforms in the future.
Dentist / patient relations
Another reason for the switches to private practices is the difference in the dentist to patient relationship. Because of the lack of dentists on the NHS the few that remain are over stretched and this shows in their bed side manner, with patients often having to have shorter appointments to deal with the heavy demand.
Many private dental practices now far surpass NHS run practices, in both patient care and procedure quality, as well as performing operations that aren't available on the NHS, and Harley Street Dental Studio is one of the best, with an array of dentists, all well respected and influential in their respective fields of dentistry, Harley Street Dental Studio is a world class practice with the highest quality of dental care and patient compassion.
