Organizations Use Wireless Internet to Advance LGBT Equality by Justin Walton

In recent years, Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) groups have become much more politically successful in recent years. Within the past two decades, a major shift in public opinion has taken place about members of the LGBT community, as heterosexual Americans have begun to see that they aren't really so different after all. Despite the fact that there continues to be a lot of resistance towards issues that would grant LGBT persons equal rights as heterosexuals, it's clear that those people who oppose equal rights for everyone are fading and losing their ability to persuade others. In reality, much of the shift in mainstream culture and acceptance of LGBT people has been the result of increased publicity and acknowledgement of the numerous issues of inequality that they face, but that doesn't mean that mainstream media sources are the cause of all of their success. In many cases, LGBT groups have created more visibility for themselves online after recognizing that so many people get a lot of information from their wireless internet access. In places where LGBT people often face a lot of discrimination, many members of the LGBT community and their supporters are utilizing these new technologies to their advantage.

These days, it's incredibly important for any group to have a lot of visibility online because so many people are online so often. Millions of Americans carry wireless internet enabled smartphones or laptops with them, which means they are able to go online any time of any day. Small town organizers, as well as organizers at organizations in the biggest cities in the country, can easily see just how important this tool is. Although the mainstream media may only cover one or two important news stories that affect LGBT people, those stories may have never been published at all if it weren't for the efforts of LGBT friendly groups who use their wireless internet connections to organize online. As these organizers post information about various things that have happened all over the country, people from every town in the country have the ability to stay in tune with various things that are happening.

It's much easier today for LGBT friendly organizations and their friends to stay in contact. Since everyone can easily get online with their wireless internet connections, it's incredibly easy for them to get instant updates about important happenings that affect the LGBT community. For example, various groups have Facebook pages, Twitter accounts, enewsletter accounts and much more. When any of those groups posts information through any of those sources, they can instantly reach out to thousands of people who have all decided to "follow" or "friend" them. Until LGBT folks gain full equality under the law, there will always been several issues that are important for them to network about, and it has become much easier for them to do so, from Salt Lake City to every other city in the country, thanks to the advancement of wireless internet access.
